The philosophy of yin and yang is one of the base concepts for all of Classical Chinese medicine and also can be understood as the basic wiring for our entire nervous system. The Nervous system has two primary modes of opperation: Sympathetic (responsive, active, reactive) and Parasympathetic (growth, healing, resit and digest) Both of these mechanisms are necessary for survival and interaction in life as well as repair and growth. The class know log ago that the equal distribution of yin and yang or active and passive is the foundation of harmony and balance is all living systems. From a modern perspective we have a clear understanding as well of the role that imbalance in the nervous system plays in every chronic and acute disease pattern.

This simple qi gong set explores the circuit of energy known as the microcosmic orbit which is responsible for modulating the flow of all yin and yang in the body system. The proactive will help smooth out and equalize the flow of energy in both the Ren (yin) and DU (yang) channels supporting overall harmony and balance of the nervous system as well as proper flow of qi though the body.

The second movement works to harmonize right and left sides of the body in the 3 main energy centers or Dantiens. Equalizing yin and yang balance at each of these center also has a powerful impact on the nervous system as each energy center is related to each of the 3 levels of the brain, the gut, heart and head. Each energy center and each brain work to support the levels of function from survival and dense energy in the core and pelvis, to centered heart an expressive energy in the middle to clear and Spritual energy in the mind and upper center. Balancing the active and passive aspects of each of these centers keeps our overall body, mid and sprit harmonized and vital.
